One week in, some small updates

First, thanks to everyone who has tried the game so far and give feedback! I’ve made a few tweaks over the course of the week in response:

  • The game audio was lowered to match industry standards in response to everyone agreeing it was too loud. I also tweaked the reverb on the music bus.
  • Exiting a level the way you entered will prompt you to restart, continue, or quit, instead of taking you to the title screen immediately.
  • The player can now move at speeds that more closely match the position of the left stick when playing with gamepad.
  • The lamplighter now flashes after a bat does damage.

Since this is a prototype, I’m going to prioritize changes that reduce playing friction so you can focus on whether you like the idea of the game. After that, I’ll be trying different approaches to base the full game on, for example, changing the game to isometric 3D or altering how the systems work.

One of the things I’m working on next is to make it more apparent which lamps unlock the doors. I’ll post it as soon as it’s ready and drop a line here in the dev log.

I hope you will let me know what you think of each new version! Thanks for playing, and now, go forth and light lamps!
